October 25, 2006

The APW Union Local 2255, the local U.S. Postal workers union in Elmira, will hold an informational picket at 7 a.m. on Thursday outside the main Elmira post office on Clemens Center Parkway in downtown Elmira.

The event is part of a nationwide effort to inform the public of a pending decline in services, according to union representatives.

U.S. Congressional candidate Eric Massa will attend the picket at 9 a.m. to show support for the effort and Elmira Councilman James Hare will also be in attendance.

The union states that further consolidation of postal service in the Elmira area should be avoided as recent consolidations have caused delays in mail delivery and longer lines at the Post Office, according to the union.
