Postal workers to have informational picket

Postal workers will stage an informational picket today in front of the main post office on Corliss Street in Providence to protest actions by the U.S. Postal Service that they argue have led to a deterioration in mail service in Rhode Island and across the nation. The workers are warning customers to expect weeklong delays in mail delivery under a Postal Service plan to close parts of mail processing facilities. The Postal Service has reportedly targeted 139 sorting facilities across the nation for consolidation, according to the local chapter of the American Postal Workers Union, which will stage the protest.
