| Postal workers are picketing
outside the Sioux City post office
today | | U-S Postal Service workers in Sioux City and in several
other cities are picketing post offices today, protesting plans for
possible consolidations that would affect mail processing centers,
including the one in Sioux City.
Union officials say what's
being proposed would disproportionately help big corporate special
interests such as advertising mailers who presort their mail, at the
expense of local business owners and citizens.
The U-S Postal
Service says that's not correct and it calls the protests
"misinformation picketing."
It says service would not suffer,
workers would not lose jobs and the Sioux City postmark would not go
away.
There's no decision yet on the fate of the
consolidation plans.
