Postal Workers Protesting Possible Downsizing
(CBS4) OAKLAND PARK Postal workers in Oakland Park took to the picket lines Monday afternoon in an effort to raise awareness about possible downsizing and relocation of their postal facility.
CBS4’sJoan Murray spoke to several postal workers who fear they will either lose their jobs or be forced to work from other postal facilities inconveniently far from their homes.
Local postal workers say if the United States Postal Service consolidates the Fort Lauderdale Processing and Distribution Center with another South Florida facility, it will mean slower mail delivery times, less reliable mail service and the loss of the Fort Lauderdale postmark which is how these workers distinguish themselves from other areas and cities.
The USPS says there are no definitive plans to do away with the Ft. Lauderdale Mail Processing Facility 1900 West Oakland Park Blvd, and that several employees were protesting because they claim their facility turned up on a report by the Postal Rate Commission that stated their facility may be relocated.
The USPS PIO said this change is not set in stone, but there is a possibility the consolidation could happen in the future.
