Union Updates Consolidation ‘Tool Kit’
APWU Web News Article #066-09, June 11, 2009
An updated tool kit is available to help APWU local and state leaders in their efforts to stop the Postal Service from moving vital mail processing operations away from the communities they serve. Many of the USPS consolidation proposals would lead to diminished mail service, the union notes.
“We hope the APWU Guide to Fighting Consolidation will be a valuable resource for union leaders and activists in their efforts to inform citizens and community leaders about the Postal Service’s misguided effort to ‘realign’ the postal network,” APWU President William Burrus said.
The guide contains suggestions for exposing the negative effect consolidations would have on mail service; building alliances with community organizations; winning support from elected officials, and gaining media attention.
The resource packet will be mailed to local unions that are notified of Area Mail Processing feasibility studies. Click here to download or view the document [PDF – members only].
