National Day of Mourning for President Reagan
Burrus Update #09-2004, June 7, 2004
The USPS has notified the APWU that it will observe the National Day of Mourning June 11, 2004, to commemorate former President Ronald W. Reagan.
A national-level agreement between the union and management outlines the provisions for granting APWU-represented employees a day of observance when a National Day of Mourning is declared by the President of the United States. The May 4, 2000, agreement [PDF] was negotiated following arbitration over the National Day of Mourning in 1994 for former President Richard M. Nixon.
