Convention Committees

Because they are responsible for reviewing resolutions before they are acted on by the delegates, APWU convention committees play an important role.

There are 17 convention committees. Resolutions are submitted to the national Secretary-Treasurer’s office by APWU state and local organizations. The Screening Committee receives the resolutions from the Secretary-Treasurer and, after review, decides which panel can most appropriately weigh the value of the proposed resolution, and whether it is unique or can be combined with other resolutions before being referred. The committees established to study the resolutions then make recommendations for or against adoption by the convention.

In a February 2008 letter, President Burrus asked all state and local presidents to recommend convention delegates to serve on these committees; about 500 delegates will be appointed.
