19th Biennial APWU National Convention
Monday, Aug. 18– Friday, Aug. 22

The American Postal Workers Union’s 19th biennial convention is set for Monday, Aug. 18, through Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at the Paris and Bally’s hotels in Las Vegas.

The National Convention is the union’s highest decision-making body. To help the union chart its course for the future, resolutions on a wide variety of subjects are introduced, debated, and voted upon. The resolutions give focus to the union’s goals in contract negotiations and in the political arena, as well as in helping the organization function more smoothly and better serve its membership.

Each APWU local and state organization is urged to send its full quota of delegates. Members-at-large also are encouraged to attend the convention.

Several other important union events will take place in the days before and after the convention. Division meetings for each of the crafts — Clerk, Maintenance, Motor Vehicle Service, and Support Services — are set for the weekend of Aug. 16-17, as is the APWU Retirees Department Meeting. A conference for BMC employees will be held Aug. 15. The union’s Research & Education Department series of workshops will be presented on Saturday, Aug. 23.

All convention events will take place at the Paris [floor map - PDF] and Bally’s [floor map - PDF] hotels, which are joined by a walkway.
