Contract-Extension Ratification Vote Totals
APWU Web News Article #37-05, Aug. 18, 2005
The official results of the APWU contract extension ratification vote are now available, including a Local-by-Local tally. The results [PDF — corrected 08/23/05] are listed alphabetically by state. Locals within each state are also listed alphabetically.
Results were certified by Merkle Data Technologies, Inc., which conducted the balloting under the supervision of a subcommittee of the Rank and File Bargaining Advisory Committee.
Ballots were mailed to more than 220,000 active-duty APWU members covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the U.S. Postal Service.
The contract extension was approved by 88 percent of those voting, with 69,736 voting "Yes," and 9,238 voting "No." These numbers differ slightly from those reported following the preliminary count Aug. 5.
Ballots were mailed to members July 18 to July 20, with returns due Aug. 5. The envelopes were picked up at 2 p.m. (Eastern Time) and the count began immediately. The unofficial nationwide "Yes" and "No" totals, based on a hand-count, were announced on the union's Web site at approximately 11 p.m. Aug. 5.
