USPS Position Letter: Article 38; Maintenance Craft (1972)

This USPS Step 4 Decision outlines Management’s position on a grievance where the mechanical aptitude test was the determining factor in the decision as to which of two individuals was the best qualified for the position of “letter box mechanic”. Item 21 of the additional items states that the examination shall not be controlling in determining qualifications. In this case, however, it was the determining factor, and therefore, the case was remanded back to the Toledo, Ohio Post Office for further review.
