SMS Text Messaging Program

Program name "APWU." The APWU text messaging program uses SMS text messaging to alert its members and interested individuals about APWU’s campaigns related to its mission, and to collect information that may assist the APWU’s campaigns. APWU uses the “short code”, which is currently 91990, as its SMS text messaging number. Message frequancy varies and message and date rates may apply.

By providing your telephone number to APWU, you consent to receive and authorize APWU to send recurring text messages from 91990 by an automatic telephone dialing system. Within a reasonable period after you have opted in to the program, APWU will send you an initial SMS text message confirming you have subscribed. APWU may periodically contact you by SMS text message about APWU’s campaigns from APWU’s short code.

You can unsubscribe from SMS text messages from APWU at any time by texting STOP to APWU’s short code. You will receive a single additional message confirming that you have been unsubscribed. You can email communications@apwu.org for help or to unsubscribe from the program.

APWU will not share your telephone number or any other personally identifiable information sent to APWU through SMS text messaging with any third party. Every SMS text message sent by APWU to you will identify APWU as the sender, except for subsequent messages sent on the same day as the initial message.

APWU will not send you SMS text messages for any reason unrelated to an APWU campaign. Privacy policy.

APWU Robocall Policy

(October 25, 2024)

1. Purpose

The APWU Robocall Policy is established to ensure that the American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO, complies with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), and all applicable state laws related to telemarketing activities. The purpose of this policy is to outline the practices the APWU will take to safeguard members’ rights and ensure ethical and lawful conduct in our use of robocalls.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all employees, staff, contractors, and third parties involved in communications with robocall technology or automatic telephone dialing systems on behalf of the APWU.

3. Compliance with Laws and Regulations

A. Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA): We will obtain prior express written consent from members before initiating any robocalls to cellular devices using an automatic telephone dialing system or an artificial or prerecorded voice. We will honor all Do-Not-Call requests and maintain an internal Do-Not-Call list.

B. State Laws: We will comply with all applicable state laws concerning telemarketing and robocalls, which may include additional registration requirements, stricter regulations on calling times, and adherence to more comprehensive Do-Not-Call lists.

4. Training and Procedures

All personnel involved in artificial or prerecorded voice robocalls will be trained on this policy and the relevant legal requirements. We will establish procedures for documenting consumer consent, processing Do-Not-Call requests, and handling complaints.

5. Monitoring, Enforcement, and Record keeping

We will regularly monitor robocalling activities to ensure compliance with this policy and applicable laws. Members may request information about the origin of the call and have the right to be placed on the APWU’s internal Do-Not-Call list at any time. All complaints related to our robocall activities will be logged and addressed in a timely manner.
Members will be given the number 202-216-2645 to opt-out of receiving future robocalls to their residential landlines. The voicemail box for 202-216-2645 will be checked regularly. Any Do-Not-Call requests will be promptly recorded in the APWU’s internal Do-Not-Call list. Each entry shall include the member’s full name, telephone number, and the date of the request. Do-Not-Call requests shall be retained in the APWU’s Do-Not-Call database for at least 5 years. Do-Not-Call requests will be honored within 30 days from the date of the request.

This policy is effective immediately.
