APWU to Participate In National Rally for Jobs, Change
September 21, 2010
On Saturday, Oct. 2, the APWU will join thousands of people in the One Nation March, a rally to strengthen the fight for good jobs and re-commit to change in America.
The APWU, along with other labor unions and activists from across the county, will gather in front of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, to help “Put America Back to Work and to Pull America Back Together.” The demonstration is a movement of Americans from all backgrounds, experiences, and hometowns coming together to reclaim their country and the principles of “freedom, justice, and equality for all.”
The march also supports the idea that everyone should be able to live the American Dream: A secure job, the ability to support their families, a safe home, and access to excellent public education.
The APWU and the AFL-CIO are part of the One Nation Coalition, which is made up of more than 150 national, local, and state organizations dedicated to reform in America by “refocusing the nation’s priorities and investing in all our people.” Many of these organizations are the allies the union will need in the fight to Save Saturday Service — and our jobs.
APWU members are encouraged to attend the event, which will be held on the National Mall in the nation’s capital from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. Pre-rally activities will commence at 11 a.m. Participants are encouraged to arrive in the morning to allow sufficient time to get from the mall to the Lincoln Memorial.
Members interested in participating should contact Roosevelt Stewart in the national Secretary-Treasurer’s office at 202-842-4215, or by e-mail to rstewart@apwu.org. APWU members will assemble near the National Mall, and hats will be distributed to all APWU attendees. Members are encouraged to wear their APWU gear.
