District Court Settlement: Medical Records (2010)

Agreement spelled out specific notification Postal Inspectors or OIG must provide to medical providers when requesting health care related information from medical providers while investigation alleged workers’ compensation fraud or leave benefits abuse in order to protect the employee’s legal rights under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) and the Privacy Act of 1974 as well as the employees’ constitutional right to privacy and Fourth Amendment rights.
