Step 4 Settlement Agreement:  Article 17; Representation (1986)

The issue in this grievance is whether there is a limit to the number of alternate stewards the union can appoint. During our discussion, we agreed to full settlement of the grievance as follows:

1. The Union will provide a list of stewards and sequentially listed alternates in accordance with Article 17 of the National Agreement.
2. There will be no “shopping” for stewards.
3. If a steward or alternate is not available, the Postal Service may grant the grievant an extension of time for the grievance.
