The issue in these grievances is whether a shop steward on light duty should be authorized steward time. After reviewing this matter, we mutually agreed that no national interpretive issue is fairly presented in these cases. The parties agree that a shop steward on light duty may perform steward duties unless the steward's medical restriction precludes such activity. With this in mind, we agreed to remand these cases to the parties at Step 3 for further processing including arbitration if necessary.
