APWU Members Encouraged To Join April 4 'Day of Solidarity'

APWU members are encouraged to participate in events on April 4 to support embattled state and local workers in a national “Call to Action.”

Labor unions and activists across the country have organized solidarity demonstrations throughout the week – with Monday, April 4 being the primary day of action – to support workers in states where anti-labor legislators are threatening employees’ rights to collectively bargain and have a voice at work.

“I urge all members to stand in solidarity with public employees across the nation,” APWU President Cliff Guffey said. “If anti-worker politicians succeed in these states, we and other workers will be targeted next.”

The day of action is part of the AFL-CIO’s “We Are One” campaign, and takes place on the day Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in Memphis, TN in 1968. Dr. King was in Memphis to stand with sanitation workers demanding the right to bargain collectively for a better life.
