Atlanta Local Registers New Voters
October 11, 2012
The Atlanta Metro Area Local threw a “vote party” on Oct. 6 and 7 to encourage union members and community residents to register to vote and to support pro-worker candidates in next month’s elections. The union’s two-day street party, which featured speakers, music, and food, was a resounding success, reports Local President Kennith L. Beasley.
“We registered more than 200 new voters, and we’ll be reminding them to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 6,” he said.
“It was great fun to see all our people pulling together,” Beasley added. “Our brothers and sisters were urging their friends, neighbors – and especially young people, to register.”
APWU President Cliff Guffey praised the effort. “We congratulate the Atlanta Area Local for their outstanding voter registration effort,” he said. “I encourage every local to reach out to their members and community residents and encourage them to turn out for President Obama and pro-worker candidates on Election Day.”
