On June 20th, the Poor People’s Campaign will hold the largest digital and social media gathering of poor and low-wealth people, moral and religious leaders, advocates, and people of conscience in this nation’s history.

The recent protests and the global pandemic are exposing the already existing crisis of systemic racism, poverty, ecological devastation, the war economy and militarism, and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism.

On June 20, 140 million poor and low-income people across this nation will be heard during the Poor People’s digital mass gathering.

In 2014, the APWU National Convention voted to support honorary APWU Member Rev. William Barber’s Moral Monday movement, a broad coalition of activists fighting for justice. Rev. William Barber is now co-chairing the Poor People’s Campaign, and APWU is pledging to take a stand together by joining their digital mass gathering: A National Call for Moral Revival.

In 2018, the APWU National Convention passed a resolution to, “go on record supporting the general goals of the Poor Peoples Campaign, and be it further; Resolved, that American Postal Workers Union locals, states and members (both active and retired) are encouraged to participate in actions of the Poor Peoples Campaign in their local communities, and be it further; Resolved, that linking hands in solidarity with community-based organizations such as the Poor Peoples Campaign is an integral part of building solidarity with the people of this country in the struggle to save the public postal service and expand postal services.”

“When we all get together – labor and civil rights - when we all get together,” Rev. Barber said to the 2014 Convention Delegates, “What a day! What a day! What a day it will be!”

That day is coming on June 20, 2020.

“There is a liaison between labor and civil rights. One cannot go without the other,” Secretary-Treasurer Powell said, during the Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival’s press conference in January.

“We each fight for economic justice, social justice, human rights, women’s rights every day.”

RSVP to join the revival: June 20, 2020 Online at 10am & 6pm EST.
