The Postal Service’s operating profit totaled $1.4 billion for the first five months of fiscal year 2015, according to a USPS report provided to the Postal Regulatory Commission.

This result exceeds the $1.375 billion operating profit for the entire year in fiscal year 2014.

As of the end of February, total mail volume is up .5 percent and total mail revenue increased 3 percent, compared to the same period last year. Although first-class mail volume declined by .7 percent, first-class revenue rose by 3 percent. Standard mail revenue increased 4.5 percent, and shipping and package revenue jumped 8.5 percent compared to the same period last year.

“Compare the facts to the gloom and doom reported by the corporate media and privatizers,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. “The future of the public Postal Service is bright.”
