MACON, Ga. (WGXA) -- The Macon postal worker's union and unions across the state were on the streets to bring attention to workplace harassment.

On Friday, President of the Area Local 1340 Macon Union, Kwajalyn Cornelius'Grace, said postal workers are out, making the public aware of workplace harassment and shortages that are affecting how the community is served.

"We're calling this a day of action...local unions all over the state are coming out to the street to let the public know what's going on inside the post office." Grace added, "What's going on inside is affecting the customer outside."

The president said employees have been dealing with ongoing daily harassment, and toxic work environments and that those issues are negatively impacting them mentally and physically, right down to how they provide service.

"It's been going on for a while. Today is the day the OCHA Act was signed into law so we use this day as a day of action," Grace said.

She said employees are concerned about understaffing, "We're having maybe one person work the job of two to three people," and the aforementioned harassment she said they experience. "Call your Congressman, your local lawmakers so they can reach out to management at the postal service and see if they can come to some agreement."

Grace said this is a nationwide movement and she has been in communication with other postal workers who are also on the streets for the same cause.

"[Today is a] stand up day... we want to be treated fairly and have help to do our job properly," Grace expressed.
