Due to space concerns, reservations are now requested from union members who plan to attend a Smithsonian National Postal Museum program on March 20 marking the anniversary of the Great Postal Strike of 1970. APWU President William Burrus will be among the speakers featured.

APWU members planning to attend should reserve seats by March 8 by e-mailing their name to NPMprograms@si.edu, or by calling the museum at 202-633-5528. Union members are also invited to a coffee reception following the program.

Burrus will be joined by Vincent R. Sombrotto, president emeritus of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), in discussing the strike and the impact it had on mail service and postal workers.

The free program will take place on Saturday, March 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the museum’s Discovery Center in downtown Washington, D.C. APWU members who are unable to attend may view the event live at http://www.postalmuseum.si.edu/programs/, starting at 1 p.m.

Before and during the live program, participants can submit questions for the speakers via e-mail to NPMprograms@si.edu, by posting on the National Postal Museum’s Facebook page, or by sending a “tweet” to #SmithsonianNPM. After the program concludes, the event can be viewed the museum’s YouTube channel.
