Lowell Elementary School students in San Jose, CA, got a special treat this week: coloring books filled with fun facts about the Postal Service and how mail is delivered.

The coloring books were delivered during a visit to the school by members of the San Jose’s Local Contract Action Team.

The visit was part of the Western Region’s School Community Outreach Program, where children are educated about the value of the post office. The students then write a letter home, so they can see their post office in action.

“The letter they write home is short and sweet,” explained Western Region Coordinator Omar Gonzalez. “They write a little about what they learned and ask their parent(s) to sign and send in the ‘I Stand with Postal Workers’ postcard.

“This gives the children an opportunity to educate parents on the APWU’s effort to keep post offices open,” he said.
