Son of APWU Member Killed in Iraq
October 20, 2004
Pvt. Mark Barbret, the son of APWU member Angela Barbret, was killed in Iraq Oct. 14. The 22-year old soldier died after the Humvee he was riding in triggered a bomb that had been placed in the road. He was returning from a mission near the Iraqi city of Ramadi.
His mother, Angela Barbret, is an FSM 100 operator at the Royal Oak Processing & Distribution Center near Detroit, and is a member of the 480-481 Area Local.
Two other soldiers were killed in the attack. Mark Barbret’s Army unit had been transferred from Korea six weeks earlier.
“Our hearts go out to Angela Barbret and her family,” said APWU President William Burrus. “We deeply regret this tragic loss of life.”
In addition to his mother, Barbret is survived by his father, Kim, a sister, a brother, and a 2 ½ year old son, Christian Hale.
