250th Anniversary of the USPS

250th Anniversary of the USPS 250th Anniversary of the USPS

The 250th Anniversary gives us a great opportunity to build ever more support for the public Postal Service in the face of the billionaire led efforts to privatize our wonderful national treasure, remove it from the ownership of the people, and turn it over to private companies for private profit.

Through the rest of this anniversary year, APWU is encouraging members to work with local and state government entities such as City Councils, County Commissions, Mayor Offices, State Legislative bodies, Tribal governments etc. to pass and promote “Proclamations” recognizing this Anniversary milestone, the significance of the U.S. Postal Service to the people and opposing dismantling of the Post Office.

Strong proclamations from various government entities throughout the entire swath of the country (from the largest cities to small towns) will help firm up the defense of the Post Office at a time where the USPS itself, our jobs and our union are under extreme threat. One of our strengths is we are entrenched in our communities, represent workers throughout the entire political spectrum and have relationships with many local and state elected representatives.
Below is a “Sample” Proclamation. This can be a starting point as you work with your local and state
governments to help craft and pass the resolutions. Preliminary and planning meetings with elected
representatives will be helpful as we need standard bearers to move the process forward. ln addition, having workers and community members and postal customers mobilized to speak at and attend various meetings will help solidify the support.
