USPS Position Letter: Article 34; Work and/or Time Standards (1979)
Return to Contract DatabaseThis USPS Step 4 Denial outlines Management’s position on whether or not local management established a work or time standard. The Postal Service stated that supervisors may expect employees to perform their duties so as to meet the intent of the principals of a “fair day’s work” for a “fair day’s pay,.” However, local management was reminded that blanket distribution goals that could be interpreted as being work or time standards should not be established. In addition no disciplinary action should be taken against employees who do not meet the “management distribution goals”.
