California Postal Vehicle Service employees who have been identified as impacted by the USPS decision to subcontract PVS operations in the state and who have indicated their intent to accept the USPS Voluntary Early Retirement offer now have until Jan. 31, 2013, to revoke their decision. The extension of the deadline is the result of an agreement between the APWU and management dated Nov. 30, 2012.

All other provisions of the Sept. 28, 2012, Memorandum of Understanding on the retirement incentive will continue to apply to affected employees.

An arbitration hearing protesting the Postal Service’s subcontracting decision began on Nov. 27 and continued on Nov. 28. Additional hearings will be held on Dec. 3 and 4.

The parties agreed to the extension because the outcome of the arbitration may influence employees’ retirement decisions.

The union’s grievance seeks to prohibit the Postal Service from proceeding with plans to subcontract all PVS operations in California.
