A new section of the APWU Web site (www.apwu.org) allows union members to review their membership information, find out how to contact their union representatives, and — in the coming weeks — will permit members to register online for national conferences and training seminars.

The new pages (My Local & Personal Info) also promise to be a valuable organizing resource for APWU local and state presidents — allowing them direct and immediate access to their most current membership records, as well as dues information, COPA contributions, and non-member reports, the union announced today.

“The new system will help local and state leaders communicate more effectively with their members, organize non-members, and track the progress of their COPA campaigns,” said APWU President William Burrus. “It also will help rank-and-file members review their personal information and find out how to get in touch with their local and national officers,” he said.

Culminating a long-term effort to modernize and centralize membership data-processing operations, the new system moves APWU record-keeping in-house. “This will preserve APWU jobs and save the union up to a $1 million a year,” Secretary-Treasurer Terry Stapleton said. Retirees and associate members also will be able to track their dues payments and other vital information online, 24 hours a day.

“Beginning in mid-July the new system will permit the thousands of union members who plan to attend this year’s All-Craft Conference and other nationally-sponsored events to register, select workshops, and remit payments to the national union in just a few easy steps,” Stapleton said.

Members Only

The new portion of the Web site will be located in the Members Only section, and will require users to log-in and enter a password. By logging onto My Local & Personal Info, local and state presidents can now retrieve the most current address for members, as well as telephone number and e-mail addresses if members have provided them. In addition, local and state presidents can review information about non-members, as well as dues check-off reports, individual and local COPA contributions, and more.

APWU members can now view individual Member Profile pages that show their current mailing address, e-mail address, a record of recent COPA contributions, and more. Each member’s profile will also list contact information for their local and national union officers.

Log-in procedures for the new Members Only features will require union members to enter their USPS Employee Identification Number, followed by a password consisting of their name and the last four digits of their Social Security number. Once they log on, members will be required to change their passwords. “This will enable members to select a password that will be easy for them to remember,” Stapleton said, “and will help keep their information secure.”

Retirees and private-sector union members should have received a letter providing them with their log-in information. (Retirees and private-sector members who have not received a letter by July 5 should send an e-mail to: imisid@apwu.org to request a duplicate, and should provide their name and home address.)

Union members are encouraged to add their e-mail addresses and phone numbers to their profile, so that the union can notify them quickly about important issues and send confirmation of event registration. Entering an e-mail address also will help the union contact you quickly if you forget your password.

Web site users should note, however, that they will not be able to use the new feature to change their name or mailing address. The union keeps these records up-to-date through biweekly data transfers from USPS headquarters; therefore, changes made through the union would be overwritten by future updates. Members who wish to change their name or address must contact the Human Resources Department of the USPS. (If your facility does not have a Human Resources Department, corrections should be sent to:

Members can call the Shared Services Center at 1-877-477-3273; 1-866-260-7507 (TDDY/TTY).

In the next few weeks, individual union members will be able to sign up online for national union events and to pay registration fees with a credit card, through a secure server. (Printing registration forms and returning them by mail or fax will continue to be an option.) Local and state presidents will be able to register and submit payment for their entire delegations. Registration information will appear along with the announcement of individual events.
