Philadelphia City Council Adopts ‘Stop Staples’ Resolution
December 12, 2014
The Philadelphia City Council voted unanimously on Dec. 11 to adopt a resolution to support the APWU’s efforts “to protect living-wage jobs and its insistence on the highest possible standards of customer services, opposes efforts to privatize postal operations, and calls upon Philadelphians to consider this issue when deciding whether to patronize Staples.”
The council further resolved to present a copy of the resolution to the Postmaster General and Board of Governors, and to the CEO and Board of Directors of the Staples Corporation.
The resolution was sponsored by District 7 Councilwoman Maria D. Quiñones Sánchez and Councilman-at-Large William Greenlee.
APWU members Cindy Heyward and June Cohen addressed the council and urged passage of the resolution.
