Official Local-by-Local Ratification Vote Totals

The official results of the APWU contract ratification vote are now available, including a local-by-local tally. The results are shown alphabetically by state, with locals in each state listed alphabetically as well. 

Results were certified by American Arbitration Association, which conducted the balloting under the supervision of a subcommittee of the Rank-and-File Bargaining Advisory Committee.

Ballots were mailed to more than 215,000 APWU members covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the U.S. Postal Service. In addition, ballots were sent to non-members who were invited to vote — provided they completed and returned union sign-up forms that were included in the mailing.

The tentative agreement was approved by 88 percent of those voting, with 84,486 voting “Yes,” and 12,016 voting “No.” Approximately 89 percent of Clerk Craft APWU members voted in favor of ratification; 87 percent of Motor Vehicle Craft members voted in favor, and 81 percent of Maintenance Craft members voted in favor of the agreement.

Approximately 45 percent of APWU members participated in the voting, including 719 new members. The 45 percent participation rate represents a substantial improvement over voting in the contract extension referendum in 2005, in which approximately 36 percent of APWU members voted.

In an effort to increase participation in the ratification process, APWU President William Burrus announced in December that the national union would reward locals with the greatest percentage of membership involvement. The top three locals in each of several categories will receive compensation to be used on behalf of the members. To be eligible, locals must have achieved a voter-participation level of at least 50 percent.
