APWU Secures More Space For Inaugural Assembly,Invites NALC
December 29, 2008
The APWU has reserved additional space for union members to gather on Inauguration Day, union President William Burrus has announced. Union members will be able to enjoy the event at the National Association of Home Builders, 1201 15 Street NW, Washington, DC, 20005, directly across the street from the Madison Hotel, where the APWU also has reserved a meeting room.

And, in a show of solidarity, Burrus has invited members of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) to join with APWU members for the historic occasion.
Union members are welcome to bring family and friends who are traveling with them to the assembly. Participants will be able to watch the festivities on large-screen televisions at the new location from 7 a.m. until midnight. The venue is an attractive site that can accommodate up to 1,200 people. The Madison Hotel site holds approximately 300. Light refreshments will be served.
APWU members will be responsible for their own transportation and lodging. The national union will not provide tickets to the swearing-in ceremony, and is unable to offer transportation to the site of the oath of office or the parade, due to traffic and security restrictions imposed by Inauguration planners. Tickets are not required for the parade.
Those who wish to see the inaugural parade in person will have a long walk to spots along the parade route. The parade concludes at the White House, more than half a mile from the union assembly point; the rest of the parade route is farther away.
“We look forward to celebrating this historic occasion,” Burrus said. “The election of Barack Obama was a victory for working people — and we are eager to commemorate this momentous event together.”
