National Healthcare Call-In Day July 28
July 27, 2009
Union members across the nation will begin calling their U.S. representatives on Tuesday, July 28, to demand that the House pass comprehensive healthcare reform legislation, now!
Together with Health Care for America Now!, AFL-CIO unions, state federations, central labor councils, and healthcare advocates are mobilizing for a National Call-In Day for Health Care from 9 a.m. EDT to 5 p.m. EDT [flyer].
“Members of Congress have heard plenty from health insurance companies, who have lobbied hard to delay, weaken, and kill healthcare reform legislation. It’s time for Congress to hear the voices of America’s workers,” said APWU Legislative and Political Director Myke Reid.
Union members are urged to call 877-264-HCAN (877-264-4226) to ask their U.S. representatives to support the House healthcare reform bill (H.R. 3200). The measure contains a much-needed public health insurance option and shared responsibility, including an employer “pay or play” requirement. It does not tax employer-provided plans.
“I urge APWU members to ask their members of Congress to pass health care reform legislation, now!,” said APWU President William Burrus.
