The issue in this grievance is whether or not the letter of demand issued to grievant, for a tort claim paid by the Postal Service for damage to a private citizen's vehicle caused by the employee, was justified. During our discussion, we mutually agreed that the following constitutes full and complete settlement of this case:
Pursuant to statutory and judicial mandates, government (postal) employees are protected from liability for vehicle accidents arising out of their negligence while acting in the scope of their employment. Accordingly, the letter of demand will be rescinded.
