The grievance concerns whether a supervisor in this local word processing unit may require clerk typists to type at least 180 lines per hour. We mutually agreed that the only national typing standard for this category of employee is that he/she be able to type 40 words per minute for five minutes with no more than two errors. Whether or not 180 lines per hour represents a fair extrapolation of the established standard depends upon the variables and fact circumstances existent at the local level. We certainly concurred that employees must give a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. Accordingly, this grievance is remanded to Step 3 for further processing as appropriate.
