How to Celebrate Workers Memorial Day During COVID-19
April 24, 2020
Workers Memorial Day is Tuesday, April 28, 2020. The day honors those who have died fighting for safer workplaces and better rights for all, and a day to recommitment ourselves to the fight for safe jobs.
In our APWU tradition, wear your #ProtectOurRights stickers and wristbands showing you #StandUpForSafeJob, and send us “safety selfies” to communications@apwu.org. If your local has organized an event maintaining social distancing, please share it with us via email as well.
If you are looking for additional ways to virtually come together in remembrance, here are some actions you can take on April 28:
- Fly your US flag on April 28, 2020 to support, recognize, and honor all your fellow essential workers who have been sickened and lost their lives to this pandemic: https://www.facebook.com/USMWF/posts/10163430622495361;
- Shine Bright for Our Fallen Workers, on Workers Memorial Day turn your porch lights on from 7PM to 10PM in memory and honor of the 14 workers who die on the job every day in the US: https://www.facebook.com/USMWF/posts/10163209705175361;
- The Catholic Labor Network will be streaming a memorial mass to honor fallen workers at 3PM EST on April 28, 2020: https://www.facebook.com/CatholicLaborNetwork/posts/2944237292296624;
- If you are on break or not working, tune into Facebook. USMWF will be holding a Facebook Live ceremony on Workers Memorial Day at 8PM EST. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/USMWF/posts/10163267702855361.
