APWU Backs Retirees’ Demand to Re-Open Social Security Offices

APWU President Mark Dimondstein spoke at a rally sponsored by the Alliance for Retired Americans on Oct. 2, as the  group delivered petitions with more than 700,000 signatures demanding that the Social Security Administration reopen field offices. The agency recently closed offices nationwide.

APWU retiree and Alliance for Retired Americans activist Ken Pease personally carried the petitions to the office of Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Budget Committee.

Participants included: the Alliance for Retired Americans, Campaign for America’s Future, Senator Bernie Sanders, Campaign for Community Change, Daily Kos, Democracy for America, The Other 98%, Progressives United, Social Security Works, USAction.
