Portland OR Defends Door-to-Door Delivery
APWU Stands in Solidarity with Letter Carriers
October 3, 2016
Members of the Portland [OR] Area Local attended a rally defending door-to-door delivery organized by the local branch of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), on Sept. 29.
At the demonstration in front of the main post office downtown, union members and allies spoke out against a bill pending in Congress that threatens to end door-to-door delivery and force customers to use clusterboxes. Speakers included representatives from the Oregon State AFL-CIO, Portland Jobs with Justice and Rep. Earl Blumenauer’s office.
“We try to be in solidarity with both the Mail Handlers and the NALC,” said Portland Local Vice President Joe Cogan, who attended the rally. “We are in regular contact with both of those chapters. We are just trying to support each other.”
