Philadelphia BMC Local, Pennsylvania State Buy Billboard Ad
May 8, 2015
Members of the Philadelphia BMC Local and the Pennsylvania Postal Workers Union are spreading the word about the May 14 Day of Action in a big way.
The local and state APWU purchased a digital billboard ad that will display the union’s message for a week, beginning on Monday, May 11. The billboard is located at a busy intersection at the entrance to the Bulk Mail Center truck yard, where a National Day of Action event is scheduled.
“Hundreds of cars go by every hour and there’s a light at the corner,” said local President Vince Tarducci, “so plenty of people will see the ad – and seeing us demonstrating on Thursday.” The National Day of Action event will be on the corner where the billboard is located, on the corner of Byberry Road and Evans Street.
Stewards and officers will meet at the union office nearby between 5:30 and 6 a.m. to pick up supplies, then head over to the rally site. “Tour 1 Maintenance Craft employees get off work at 6:30 a.m., so they’ll join us on the line then,” Tarducci said. The local plans to keep the morning protest going until 9 a.m. After a break, they’ll head over to Bustleton Station for a protest at lunchtime, then swing back to the BMC for an afternoon event.
The local is expecting several members of the city council to attend and plans to send out press releases over the weekend.
