Free Uniforms for Victims of Hurricane Sandy

Postal workers who suffered property losses as a result of Hurricane Sandy may be eligible to receive free uniforms, thanks to a business group.

The National Association of Uniform Manufacturers & Distributors and its member companies are providing up to $75,000 in postal clothing and uniforms to employees whose official work apparel was ruined as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Donations to employees will be capped at the value of their annual clothing allowance.

To apply for assistance, fill out a special uniform order form indicating the types and sizes of the free apparel you would like to receive.

The completed forms must also be signed by an APWU representative, a USPS manager, or an Employee Assistance Program counselor, to verify that requests for free work clothing are made by USPS workers affected by the storm. The verifying official must submit the completed forms to APWU Human Relations Department Director Sue Carney, who will present them to NAUMD; self-submissions will not be accepted. Forms received for co-workers belonging to other unions will be forwarded to the respective organization for processing.

The NAUMD has not established an application deadline, but Carney is urging affected employees to apply for assistance quickly to ensure that funds will be still available when requests for donations are received.
