APWU President Cliff Guffey will testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on July 17. The hearing will examine a draft postal bill proposed by Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) and the need for comprehensive postal reform.

The APWU declared that the draft bill was “deeply disturbing” when it was released in June. (Click here for more on Rep. Issa’s proposed legislation.)

Guffey will testify about the urgent need to enact postal legislation that rectifies the congressionally-manufactured USPS financial crisis and stops the dismantling of the mail processing network.

Also expected to testify are: Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE), who sponsored a bill that would limit the closure of rural post offices (H.R.2615), Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe and Joel Quadracci, CEO of Quad Graphics, a major mailer.

The hearing is expected to be webcast, but the committee has not announced plans to do so yet. The hearing is set for 1:30 p.m.
