NYC Zara Workers Get a Raise

After months of protest and pressure from a workers campaign, Zara clothing retail workers in New York City received a raise.

In a letter to employees, Zara said that starting in January, workers who have been with the company less than a year will make at least $12 per hour; those with one to three years will make $13, and those with more than three years will earn $14. Zara said it will also increase the number of full-time positions and promote eligible employees to that status, although it doesn’t say how many will be made available.

“I believe that because of this Change Zara campaign we are able to have this change happen,” said Jedidiah Labinjo, a sales associate at Zara’s SoHo location and an active member of the campaign.

Zara workers launched the Change Zara campaign last year, asking for higher pay and better scheduling at stores in the U.S.
